I knew I wanted to be a beautician in 1978 at the age of 4. Coloring and correcting the eyebrows of the models in magazines. I worked in my first salon when I was 10 years old, I thought it was the best thing that had ever happen to me, but I would have to wait another 8 years before I could legally do hair and makeup, it was a long wait. In the interim, I dreamed of what would one day be my salon, carefully drafting out the blueprints while I should have been doing class work.
In 1988, I began doing makeovers in school, they were well received. Graduating in 1992 I moved on to learn my craft and develop my skills through beauty school and working in salons. It was during this time I began documenting my makeovers when I was still in beauty school, with photographer Heather Whitt. I wanted to do makeovers, the complete revitalization of how someone perceive themselves, bringing to them the beauty they possess within.
My larger dream was to have an institute where a team of specialists in an in or outpatient facility that assisted people facing morbid obesity become a member of society again. By bringing together nutritionists, dietitians, personal trainers, therapists and full makeover of hair and makeup supported with motivational speaking and a personalized program that focused on them.
In 2001 I began doing makeovers on a local morning show in Indianapolis, Indiana. The show aired on Monday Mornings on Fox.
I formed, Design Team 234 and began organizing several professionals to offer an Ultimate makeover to the clients, I worked to compile the group of specialist that included fashion consultant, manicurist Jenni Gilliland, cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Chernoff and , cosmetic dentist, Dr. William Tellman. Fox TV, a local radio station DJ Kelly McKay and Stein Mart provided additional services to complete the ‘Ultimate Makeover’.
Through 2001 – 2004, I performed makeup and hair styling for numerous different venues to include, but not limited to hair shows, stylist competitions and as a personal stylist for promotional shoots, television shows and weddings.
Promotional shoots included radio, television for Playboy Hot Bod contest, Miss Hawaiian Tropic contest, and Hooters Calendar Girl contest, local and national celebrities such as Jerry Springer.
I have won several stylist competitions both nationally and internationally from Regis, Wella, KMS and more leading to a trip to Hair Color USA where I had the opportunity to learn techniques from the top stylists in the country, including Sonya and Christopher Dove.
